Yu-Hui is to be a Guest Composer at the Wellesley Composers Conference this July. Directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Mario Davidovsky for nearly 40 years, the Composers Conference is an annual two-week workshop for composers. This week Yu-Hui began her one-year residency at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University as a Bunting Fellow. Her studio is located in the Byerly Hall, which is right next to the Harvard Square. She is excited about meeting many first-rate scholars from different fields.
Yu-Hui will be a composer-in-residence at the Monadnock Music Festival in mid-August. On August 12 and 13, her new work "Rhetorical Flourishes: Three Shepard Songs" will receive its premiere performances given by soprano Tony Arnold, violist Jonathan Bagg, clarinetist Steve Jackson, and percussionist Douglas Perkins. Starting from March 2010, Yu-Hui will serve as a Co-Artistic Director of Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble, along with flutist Sue-Ellen Hershman-Tcherepnin. Now in its 35th season, Dinosaur Annex is a Bonston-based new music ensemble, which has given hundreds of performances and premieres. Yu-Hui is among the five recipients of the 2009 General Commission awards given by the Barlow Endowment for Music Composition. With this commission, she will be writing a piece, co-commissioned by the Triple Helix Piano Trio, for piano trio and women’s choir.
Yu-Hui is recently awarded a Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. With this Fellowship, she will be on leave from Brandeis during the academic year 2009-2010.
