Dinosaur Annex, the new music ensemble that Yu-Hui co-directs with Sue-Ellen Hershman-Tcherepnin, has been invited to the 10th International Beijing Modern Music Festival in May 2012. New works by Chinese composers Xu Suya, Qu Xiaosong, and Wang Feinan, along with pieces by John Harbison, Scott Wheeler and Yu-Hui, will be performed by the Dinosaur Annex musicians on May 22nd.

Meet The Composer Studio's Three City Dash Festival last April was a huge success! Yu-Hui's new piece, Pu Songling's Bizarre Tales, was premiered at the Symphony Space by Music From China, with Yu-Hui conducting. The Tangos review

Yu-Hui’s Tangled in Smoke, written for the fantastic pianist Amy Briggs, was included in Briggs’ "Tangos for Piano" CD. Mark Lehman in the 2011 March/April issue of the American Record Guide wrote: "Amy Brigg’s beguiling anthology of 22 concert tangos explores both approaches to the form… Nostalgic recreations of tango include Stravinsky’s 1940 Tango…and Yu-Hui Chang’s dreamy, oblique, disillusioned, and very beautiful Tangled in Smoke – my favorite piece on the program." This CD was released in October 2010 under the Ravello label.

Wellesley Composers Conference Residency

Yu-Hui is to be a Guest Composer at the Wellesley Composers Conference this July. Directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Mario Davidovsky for nearly 40 years, the Composers Conference is an annual two-week workshop for composers. Meet the Composer Commission – Three City Dash

Yu-Hui is one of the six commissioned composers in Meet The Composer’s one-time-only festival, Three City Dash, an event which commemorates the launch of the Meet The Composer Studio. In April 2011, three concerts in three different venues in New York City will feature world premieres of new works written by composers from three cities: Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco. Festival of New American Music

Yu-Hui is to be a featured guest composer in this year’s Festival of New American Music at the California State University, Sacramento. Her percussion solo piece "Binge Delirium" will be performed by Chris Froh in the opening night Gala Performance on November 4 at 8 p.m. as well as Chris’ recital on November 6 at 3 p.m. In conjunction with the Gala Performance, Yu-Hui will participate in a live radio broadcast on Capital Public Radio. Her other activities during the festival include a talk in the Composer’s Forum on November 5 at 11 a.m. at the Sac State Department of Music. Radcliffe residency

This week Yu-Hui began her one-year residency at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University as a Bunting Fellow. Her studio is located in the Byerly Hall, which is right next to the Harvard Square. She is excited about meeting many first-rate scholars from different fields.

Monadnock Music Festival

Yu-Hui will be a composer-in-residence at the Monadnock Music Festival in mid-August. On August 12 and 13, her new work "Rhetorical Flourishes: Three Shepard Songs" will receive its premiere performances given by soprano Tony Arnold, violist Jonathan Bagg, clarinetist Steve Jackson, and percussionist Douglas Perkins.
